NEW ORLEANS -- The Youth Ministry Institute at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary will host workshop sessions May 24-28.
The workshop offers academic credit at the certificate, undergraduate, masters and professional doctoral levels. A non-credit option is also available. Deadline to register for academic credit is April 24.
Through non-traditional instruction, the workshop will feature experts in youth ministry, who will provide insight on key topics within the field. Youth ministry is at a critical juncture in the life of the church, in the wake of recent surveys that show a decline in participation in traditional religious activities.
Among the topics to be discussed : Starting Strong, dealing with various youth ministry models, vision and purpose, and Confronting Culture, dealing with youth ministry in a postmodern world.
Dr. Allen Jackson is the founder and director of the Youth Ministry Institute at NOBTS, where he serves as Professor of Youth Education. Jackson holds the B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi and the Master of Religious Education and Ph.D. degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
"Youth and family ministry is one of the lifelines of the local church," Jackson said. "It is certainly the bridge to a church's continued effectiveness in a community. For more than 10 years, YMI has provided training for youth ministers and volunteer youth workers to help with vision, strategy, and implementation of workable programs in local churches."
