Details on the Baptist College Partnership Program
The Baptist College Partnership enables you to: I. Take Seminary Classes Sooner (for Juniors -- up to 8 hours)A limited number of students who have completed their junior year in college and maintained a cumulative "B" average are invited to complete up to 8 hours of graduate course work during the summer seminars held at NOBTS. A letter of recommendation from the chairperson of the college religion department and an official copy of your current transcript are required. II. Earn Credit in Specially Focused Seminars ( for Seniors -- up to 16 hours)Seniors and college graduates may qualify for advanced seminars, which build on your collegiate study. These seminars are designed especially for college religion students. Students who qualify are eligible to earn up to 16 hours of credit by means of one week seminars combined with directed study. These seminars are offered in January, May, June, and August of each year. Completed courses of at least six hours with a "B" grade in the subject areas at the college level are prerequisites. Some written assignment (a paper or an exegesis) in the subject area is also required. The areas of possible credit include:
Courses are graded on a pass/fail basis. The seminars will meet 3 hours per day for 5 days, with library assignments that form the foundation for seminar-style discussions. Grading is based on completion of pre-seminar readings (which cover the basic textbooks used for these courses at NOBTS), participation in class discussions, presentations in class of library research results, and a post-class submission of the required research paper/project. III. Earn Credit by Testing (up to 16 hours)Students are eligible to earn up to 16 hours of credit in specific introductory courses by successfully completing a one hour long test on the subject matter. Tests are administered on a pass/fail basis. Each test costs $35 per credit hour. Study guides are available which detail the material the test will cover. Eligibility for taking the tests is based upon an evaluation of the student's college transcript, with a specific college course in the area of the NOBTS course required before the student is allowed to take the test over the course. Also, students are expected to work through the NOBTS study guides before taking the test. The study guides include, among other items, a list of readings based upon the courses as taught at NOBTS and an annotated list of the topics covered in the course. Credit can be earned in the following courses:
*In the language courses, a student would enroll at the intermediate/exegesis level. Students who make a "B" or above in an intermediate/exegesis course will receive credit for the introductory course. IV. Earn Credit through Independent Study (up to 4 hours)In certain cases, students who have done substantial work on specific subjects at the bachelor's level can further that research through a directed study instead of repeating a course covering the basic information on the subject. At the time of evaluation of the student's transcript (when you enroll at NOBTS and meet with the Baptist College Partnership Program director) studies that might warrant this consideration will be isolated so that plans can be made by the student to pursue a directed study on the subject. The student would thus be able to engage in advanced research on the subject area instead of taking the normal course offering in the area.
