The Division of Church Music Ministries offers not only graduate degrees in church music, but also works in conjunction with other divisions of the seminary and Leavell College (the undergraduate arm of the seminary) to offer other degrees related to church music.

Doctor of Musical Arts

The purpose of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree specialization in church music is a unique research and performance doctorate designed to equip persons with knowledge, attitudes, and skills that may be applied in research, teaching, performance, ministry, and denominational leadership in the field of church music.

Master of Music in Church Music

Students who understand their call to vocational ministry in church music and worship leadership, whether in the local church, denominational agencies and institutions, or on the mission field, will find the Master of Music in Church Music degree quite appealing. This degree provides a comprehensive foundation in required studies as the student prepares for their work in church music.

Master of Arts in Worship Ministries

Students who understand their call to vocational ministry in worship leadership will find the Master of Arts in Worship Ministries degree quite appealing. This degree provides a comprehensive foundation in required studies as the student prepares for work in the local church as worship leader. There are three tracks: music, leadership, and research.

Students interested in church music but do not plan to enroll in the Division of Church Music Ministries have the opportunity to pursue the following degrees related to Church Music.

Doctor of Ministry / Doctor of Educational Ministry, Worship Leadership Specialization

The Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Educational Ministry are professional degrees providing qualified students the opportunity to achieve a high level of excellence in the practice of ministry. Those in worship leadership positions may opt for these degree programs to further hone and enrich their knowledge and skills in worship and music in the local church.

Master of Arts In Christian Education, Church Music Specialization

Students who have some background in church music and are seeking a program of study that allows not only further pursuit of musical education and training, but training in Christian Education, may opt for this program of study. The M.A.C.E. affords this type of educational training with a specialization in Church Music.

Master of Divinity in Church Music

Some students may have some background in church music and may be seeking a program of study that allows not only further pursuit of musical education and training, but education and training in other fields in a more in-depth manner. In collaboration with the Master of Divinity program, a major in Church Music track has been developed.

Master of Divinity in Worship Leadership

Some students may have some background in church music and may be seeking a program of study that allows them to become more effective worship leaders. In collaboration with the Master of Divinity program, a major in Worship Leadership track has been developed.

In conjunction with the Leavell College of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, the following programs of study are designed to help the beginning church musician and further equip those already involved in church music

Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts in Music provides the foundation for students preparing for a ministry of music or worship leadership

Associate in Music

The Associate in Music is an intermediate degree which provides basic training in church music, yet also prepares a student to continue to work towards a baccalaureate. Emphasis is placed on development of musical competencies, as well as the formulation of music programs as a part of the ministry of a local church.

Church Music Certificate

The purpose of the Church Music Certificate is to provide supplemental training for music ministers and local church music leaders in the areas of music fundamentals, worship planning and leadership, and Baptist music resources.
