NOBTS Volunteers
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BRING OUR SEMINARY FAMILY HOME
The Challenge: Hurricane Katrina left us with a lot of restoration work that will not be covered by insurance (ex. Laying sod, painting, cleaning, etc.). Since the storm SBC volunteers have saved the seminary in excess of two million dollars in completing these non-insured projects.
Dr. Chuck Kelley, our President, kept the seminary moving forward immediately after Katrina hit. Students were able to complete the Fall ’05 and Spring ’06 semesters online. Our goal is to have the campus restored and ready for occupancy by the end of this summer—August 2006. In order for us to meet this goal, we need your help to finish the task.
How can volunteers help?
1. Come to our campus for 1-5 days. (We welcome
individuals and groups alike).
2. Assist us with the work. We have a wide variety of
needs that require a wide variety of people. No matter what
your skill set, we can find a place for you to make a significant
impact.
3. Go home and tell your church family, friends, family, and
neighbors about the unique work of God that is happening on our
campus and in the greater New Orleans Area.
What other types of assistance can be
given?
1. By praying for us. Please place our restoration project on
your church’s prayer list.
2. By making monetary contributions to the seminary
restoration project. To support the ministry of NOBTS please
visit http://www.nobtsfoundation.com/.
Eligibility: (a) Participants must be 15 years of age or older. Anyone between the ages of 15 and 18 must be accompanied by a parent. (b) Each individual/group must be affiliated with an SBC church or have received special approval from the seminary.
Lodging:
Option 1: Participants will be lodged free
of charge in two, large, air-conditioned classrooms,
segregated by male and female. Participants will need to
bring air mattresses, pillows, and linens. Bathroom and
shower facilities are located elsewhere.
Option 2: Participants can stay at our guest
house (Providence Guest House) on a space available
basis. Cost: Approximately $55/night
(double-occupancy rate). Please contact the guest
house for reservations or more information at
504-944-4455.
Meals: The seminary will provide one hot meal at lunch for each participant. Breakfast and dinner are available for purchase at Cafe New Orleans or the Rivercity Cafe.
Insurance: A certificate of liability insurance must be provided for each volunteer and received by our office (see below for contact information) prior to arriving on campus. This certificate can be obtained through your church administration. Assuming you already have personal health insurance, you will probably need "USA Volunteer Missionary Travel Insurance" (see http://www.aaintl.com/ins_usavolmiss.cfm).
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLOWING ITEMS REGARDING INSURANCE:
- The certificate of Liability needs to name “New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and MGM Construction"as additional insured. The certificate of Liability also needs to name the Seminary's address (see below).
- Certificates can be sent by fax (preferred) or by mail (see "Contact Us" for more information).
