The Distance Learning Track Master of Divinity Degree
Program Description
New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary will offer a Distance Learning track for the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree. This track will be offered primarily for students who do not live near a seminary campus. Our goal is to make quality, accredited theological education with practical training for effective ministry accessible to anyone, wherever they are.
Online classes - Through the Distance Learning M.Div. track, approximately two-thirds of the hour requirements for the standard M.Div. degree will be offered online. Students can do class work for these courses any day of the week and any time of day. The courses will be offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, allowing students plenty of time to complete their assignments while performing other responsibilities. Many of the online courses are currently being offered, but additional courses are being added each semester.
In-person classes - The online classes are enhanced by face-to-face classes on one of the Seminary's campuses. These in-person classes meet the residency requirement of our theological accrediting agency, ATS. NOBTS has designed a cafeteria of options to make these in-person classes doable, no matter where you live. The cafeteria of class delivery options offered through NOBTS include the following:
- One-week classes - A wide variety of intensive one-week classes (called "academic workshops") are offered on the New Orleans campus in January, March, May, June, July, August, and October and on the Atlanta and Orlando campuses in January, March, and August. In some cases, July tandem workshops with courses addressing two complementary topics allow students to complete six credit hours with just one week on the New Orleans campus. At other times, NOBTS one-week classes are offered in association with special events or NOBTS mission trips.
- Hybrid courses - These hybrid courses are similar to online classes, except that they meet once a month on the New Orleans campus, allowing more personal interaction with the faculty member and the other students in the class. At present, hybrid classes are offered on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
- Extension center classes - In addition to its New Orleans campus, NOBTS has a dozen extension centers across the Southeast. NOBTS graduate extension centers are in Shreveport and Pineville, LA; Clinton (Jackson) and Blue Mountain, MS; Birmingham, AL; Marietta (Atlanta) and Albany, GA; and Pensacola, Graceville, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Miami, FL. Most classes are offered on Mondays.
