2006
July Update
- Workers removed the steeple from Leavell Chapel. The
process, removing the four exterior sections of the steeple
and the internal steel structure, took three
days. (Click here

- A new steeple will be constructed over the next few months and
installed on Leavell Chapel. The seminary contractor expects
the process to take four to six months.
- Volunteers from Samaritan's Purse and Kids Around the World
restored damaged playgrounds at Sunshine Park and Farnsworth. The
groups began restoring the playground at the seminary
preschool.
- Restoration work began on the Hardin Student Center
skylight.
- The Oaks, the new two-bedroom apartments on Providence Place,
opened to student residents.
- Faculty members began moving into homes along Seminary
Place.
June Update
- Restoration work is complete on the Courtyard Apartments
for single students and the Manor Apartments for student
families.
- During the first week in June students began moving back
to campus -- first to the Courtyard Apartments and on June 6, the
first student family moved into the Manor Apartments.
- Work on the Manor Apartment playground was completed in
early June by volunteers from Samaritan's Purse and Kids Around the
World.
- Sod has been installed in most of the faculty home lawns along
Seminary Place.
- Work continues on Sunshine Park. Sod has been installed.
Work is still needed to restore the playground
equipment.
- A new fence was installed on the east side of campus
and around the President's Home.
- Campus Police began replacing seminary street signs.
The fading green signs were replaced with new blue signs
complete with the NOBTS logo.

May Update
- Reconstruction continues at a record pace on the NOBTS
Campus as we get closer and closer to August.
- During the month of May workers replaced sod near
the chapel, along Lipsey Street and near faculty homes along
Seminary Place. Workers began replacing sod in Sunshine
Park on May 17.
- The rear window of Leavell Chapel has been
replaced.
- On May 13 the campus was packed with graduates and their
families for the eighty-eighth annual commencement.
- The Manor Apartments and Courtyard Apartments are near
completion. The contractor hopes to have these open for residents
by June 1. Restoration in the Oaks and Farnsworth Apartments will
be completed later in June.

returned to New Orleans.
- Staff members who were working in Atlanta moved to campus

- Apartments on Lipsey Street are being prepared to receive
staff members who will return to campus after working at the
seminary's temporary offices in Atlanta.

December 16 Update
- BellSouth installed a microwave tower on campus for temporary
telephone service to begin, possibly by the first of the year.
- Worker began demolition of two IroquoisState faculty
houses.
- Demolition of States Apartments began with the “Georgia”
building.
- Workers removed Asbestos shingles from the blue faculty house
on Seminary Place in preparation for demolition.
- Volunteers began taping and preparation for painting of
Willingham, 2nd and 3rd floors; Farnsworth, 2nd and 3rd floor;
Courtyard, 2nd and 3rd floors, Staff village, 2nd floor; and
PriceCenter, 2nd floor.
- Volunteers from California and Kentucky began work to
repair playground damage at the Preschool Center.
- Off Campus - Enterprise rental car company
began construction on new building next to the seminary’s Hamm Hall
Guest House.

- Remodeling of the Creole Room nearing completion.

- Workers started demolition of old faculty homes on Seminary
Place. Three of the four scheduled for demolition have been torn
down.
- Work of gutters and roofs continued.
- States Apartments are being prepared for demolition (this
includes removing appliances, air conditioning units, household
chemicals, etc.)
- Telephone lines are being replaced in the Price Center.
- BellSouth began the installation process for a new junction box
on campus. This will speed the restoration of telephone and
internet service at the seminary.
- Workers continue to prepare apartments for the seminary workers
returning in January.
- Two volunteer groups (one from California, another from
Kentucky) are helping with clean-up on campus and out in the
community through NOBTS’ MissionLab.

buildings.

- Began installing cabinets on the second and third floors of the
new Oaks Apartments.

in the DeMent Apartments.
- Gas water heaters in Crutcher Apartments are being replaced
with electric water heaters.
- Repainting in DeMent, Gray, VIP and Sherpherd’s Corner
apartments will be complete today.

- Workers began preparing DeMent, VIP, Shepherd's Corner,
Grey and Crutcher Apartments for the first wave of
returning NOBTS employees. This first wave will be on campus
in January when some classes return to the main
campus.
- Final preparation was made for the demolition of the States
Apartment buildings.
- Workers began clearing and gutting the campus operations
building.
- All front block streets were cleaned with a street
sweeper.
- Volunteers from Alabama and North Carolina continued clearing
out second- and third-floor student apartments.
- An initial landscape plan for the front block was
presented to the contractor for approval.

- Roofs and shingles have been replaced on all front-block
buildings. Gutter work continues on the front block.
- Volunteers from Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and even
Canada continued clearing and cleaning student apartments this
week.
- Mold abatement work continues in faculty, staff and student
residences.
- Final tree trimming is complete. The campus looks greener each
day as the grass and tree bounce back after the storm.
- 190 tons of debris have been removed from campus since
restoration work began.
- The cafeteria continues to feed over 400 people a day. Along
with the NOBTS works, electrical and gas workers, police, FEMA
contractors and military eat at NOBTS…the only hot meal in the
area.

November 4, 2005

- Volunteers from Alabama, Colorado and Mississippi began
cleaning second and third-floor student apartments. The volunteers
worked to remove items left behind by students after the Oct. 5-9
move-out.
- Workers continued to clean and gut faculty homes. Mold
abatement specialists began the process of cleaning and sanitizing
the faculty homes.
- Hamilton Hall was gutted and prepared for chemical
sanitation.
- The Oaks Apartments were rewired and workers began replace the
drywall in the new apartments.
- A tree trimming company from Texas volunteered time to work on
the final tree trimming.
- NOBTS began hosting the Third District Police Department on
campus. Policemen are using the campus as a staging area for daily
meetings and training activities while their temporary headquarters
is constructed. The department has also stationed several officers
on campus each day to assist with campus security.

October 28, 2005

- All roofs are sealed and many have been replaced.
- All first floor student and staff housing from Mirabeau Street
back have been completely gutted and cleaned. Chemical treatment
has begun.
- Faculty residences are now being gutted and cleaned.
- Final tree trimming is underway.
- Power has been restored to the front block of campus. The
Hardin Student Center is currently the command post for
the restoration process. The Cafeteria is serving over 400 meals a
day to construction workers and seminary employees. The hot
meals are being provided by Southern Baptist relief cooking
units. All other front block buildings have lights and HVAC
running.
- Martin Chapel is the site of the "Church on the Quad," where
Police Chief Barry Busby is holding Sunday morning services for our
seminary employees and construction workers.
