NOBTS combines undergraduate and graduate commencement services; graduation set for May 17

New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary will combine the Leavell College and NOBTS graduation services this spring. Previous calendars listed separated graduation dates for the undergraduate and graduate programs. However, only one service will be held on May 17, at 10 a.m. The change was made due to a smaller than usual graduating class.
   

"Having a single graduation assures us of having a larger crowd and gives greater significance in the celebration of the achievement of these graduates," Seminary Provost Steve Lemke said.

   

The move also facilitates greater stewardship of seminary resources, he noted.
     

The change to the commencement service also necessitates other schedule changes. The President’s Reception will move from Thursday evening to Friday, May 16. It will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at the President’s Home. Only one Graduation Breakfast will be held – Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 a.m. in the River City Café.
  

Students are reminded that the graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 16 at 2:30 p.m. is a mandatory event. Candidates for graduation will receive seat assignments and important information about the commencement service during the rehearsal.
  

Due to the combined graduation, seats in Leavell Chapel will begin filling up shortly after the doors open at 9 a.m. on the day of graduation. Families of graduates are urged to come early for the best seating.
  

Candidates for graduation also should note several important deadline listed below:

  • April 12 is the deadline for ordering caps and gowns from the LifeWay Campus Bookstore. Call (504) 282-2626 for details.
  • April 17 is the deadline for on-campus apartment residents to complete a vacating notice for the Housing Office.
  • April 30 is the deadline for the mandatory alumni information form for the Alumni Relations Office.
  • April 30 is the deadline for returning press release forms to the Public Relations Office.
  • May 2 is the deadline for dorm residents to complete a vacating notice for the Housing Office.
  • May 9 is the deadline to RSVP for the Graduation Breakfast.
  • May 16 is the deadline for picking up caps and gowns at the LifeWay Campus Store. The store does not open until 10 a.m. on the day of graduation.
