No Restraints Conference special event to offer course credit, free tuition

Course credit and free tuition is available to all NOBTS students for the special event class Bivocational Ministry, April 21-22, in conjunction with the upcoming No Restraints Conference, with featured speakers Phil Waldrep and Ed Stetzer.

The Caskey Center for Church Excellence will cover tuition costs for any registered student, regardless of whether the student is a Caskey scholarship recipient or not, Caskey Center director Dr. Mark Tolbert announced.

“The Bi-vocational Ministry Class is a special event class that affords students the opportunity to accomplish two goals in one setting: attend a great conference and take a great class for course credit,” Tolbert said. “We want every NOBTS student to have the opportunity to attend the No Restraints Conference and take the Bi-vocational Ministry class at no charge.”

Graduate credit is offered for PATH 5334 and undergraduate for the course PMCM 3378. No pre-class work is required. Assignments will be due at dates following the No Restraints conference. Students will be responsible for the cost of required textbooks.

A full-day class session will be held before the conference and a concluding session will be held at the end. Registration for the No Restraints conference is separate.

Caskey Center scholarship recipients are eligible for the free tuition offer even if the cost exceeds the student’s annual monetary limit, Tolbert said.

The Caskey Center provides scholarships for bivocational and smaller membership church ministers in Southern Baptist churches in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Dr. Jeffrey Farmer, Caskey Center associate director, said the course is timely as the need for bi-vocational pastors is a growing trend.

“Working in a secular job gives a pastor the opportunity to intentionally get outside the church bubble and share the gospel,” Farmer said. “As more and more of our students will be serving in a bi-vocational capacity, we want to ensure they have the tools necessary to conduct their ministry with excellence.”

Students should register through Self-Serve. Visit to register for the conference.
