Program Admission

Doctoral studies

Students seeking doctoral-level studies in music should contact the Research Doctoral Program staff or the Professional Doctoral Program staff to request application information.  You can also go to their section of the site to read more about the program.


Graduate Admissions

Students seeking graduate, master-level studies in music should contact Student Enlistment to request a catalog and admissions packet.  Admission to the Master of Music in Church Music degree program requires:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Demonstration of a satisfactory competency level in the following areas:
    1. Music theory-harmony, ear training, sight singing, form and analysis, 16th & 18th century counterpoint, and orchestration.
    2. Music History – literature (choral, solo, vocal, instrumental), composers and important facts of all periods. This includes a listening examination.
    3. Conducting
    4. Keyboard
    5. Voice

A student admitted to the institution for the Master of Music in Church Music (MMCM) degree must take a series of examinations at the beginning of the student’s first semester in order to determine the level of undergraduate music proficiency.  The results of the examinations and auditions will assist the faculty in determining for the student any courses which may be required to remove undergraduate level deficiencies.  These examinations are given prior to registration in August and January, and in the week following graduation in May.  Music placement examinations and performance auditions cover the above areas.  Detailed information about these examinations may be obtained from the Division Office.
