Program Admission

Higher education choices, and more important your calling to Christian ministry, are serious spiritual markers in your life. The faculty and student staff in the Church Music Ministries Division are committed to insuring you have all the guidance and resources available to assist you in the decision making and application process. The application requirements are as follows:

  • Completed application
  • $25 fee
  • Photo
  • Church Statement Form
  • Four Personal Reference Forms (From a pastor, church leader, and two friends not related to you)
  • Health Form
  • Proof of Immunizations
  • Official Transcripts
  • Statement of Conversion and Call

Some of these tasks may require congregational action at a church business meeting and waiting on references. Make sure you allow enough time to accomplish these requirements prior to acceptance.


Doctoral studies

Students seeking doctoral-level studies in music should contact the Division of Church Music Ministries about the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) or the Professional Doctoral Program staff about the D.Ed.Min. in Worship Studies to request application information.  You can also go to their section of the site to read more about the program.


Graduate Admissions

Students seeking graduate, master-level studies in music should contact Student Enlistment to request a catalog and admissions packet.  Admission to the Master of Music in Church Music degree program requires:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Demonstration of a satisfactory competency level in the following areas:
    • Music theory-harmony, ear training, sight singing, form and analysis, 16th & 18th century counterpoint, and orchestration.
    • Music History – literature (choral, solo, vocal, instrumental), composers and important facts of all periods. This includes a listening examination.
    • Conducting
    • Keyboard
    • Voice

Music placement examinations and performance auditions cover the above areas. 

A student admitted to the institution for the Master of Music in Church Music (MMCM) degree must take a series of examinations at the beginning of the student’s first semester in order to determine the level of undergraduate music proficiency.  The results of the examinations and auditions will assist the faculty in determining for the student any courses which may be required to remove undergraduate level deficiencies.  These examinations are given prior to registration in August and January.
