NEW ORLEANS --New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary trustee Chip Roberson entered the LifeWay Christian Store on campus to buy a book. But instead of buying a book, he led two young women to faith in Jesus Christ.

Roberson, a second-year trustee and pastor of Cave Springs Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va., was in New Orleans for the fall trustee meeting Oct. 11. As he visited the bookstore during a break, he noticed two young women looking intently at the large selection of Bibles.

As Roberson approached, the two asked about Bibles. One of the women had been exposed to Bible teaching while in jail, and studying the Bible ignited her interest in God. Recently released from jail, she came to LifeWay to purchase her own Bible so she could continue reading.

After only a few minutes of conversation, Roberson asked the women if they had they experienced salvation in Jesus Christ. They said they had not.

“I shared the Gospel with them,” he said. “I said, ‘Would y’all like to pray and ask Jesus into your heart?’”

Both of the women said yes, so there in the busy LifeWay store, Roberson led the women in prayer as they both boldly asked aloud for forgiveness of sin and a relationship with Christ.

Roberson found Gospel tracts for the women and encouraged them to read through the tracts carefully when they got home. But Roberson did not stop there. He wanted to point them to a local church.

The women mentioned that they were from Slidell, La., about 25 miles from New Orleans. Roberson immediately recommended Calvary Baptist Church in Slidell, and at that, the women left.

Roberson left the bookstore without buying a book, but he is confident the ultimate reason he entered the store that day was to share Christ with two lost souls.
