What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and is basically a list of links and descriptions provided by an agency to provide a quick summary of new content on the site. RSS feeds are used for numerous purposes: blog updates, breaking news, podcasts, photo streams, and sports casts among other types of media.

How do I use RSS?

RSS is easy to use. Many sites and programs that will read RSS, and setting up RSS for that software or site varies. All sites and software, however, will require the URL of the feed. For the NOBTS RSS feed, the URL is http://www.nobts.edu/rss . When prompted for the feed URL, simply enter the address and you are good to go.

Many web browsers have built in support for RSS feeds.

To add RSS to Internet Explorer 7: Browse to http://www.nobts.edu/rss . Select “Subscribe to this feed” in the upper right hand corner of the browser window. On pop-up window, select “Subscribe” To view the feed, select Star icon in the upper left corner of the browser window and select “NOBTS News” from the list.

To add RSS to FireFox: Browse to http://www.nobts.edu/rss . Select the “Subscribe Now” button, then click OK. It will add the RSS feed under the address bar. You can then click on the feed and see the articles from the feed.

A number of sites allow you to add RSS to your homepage such as iGoogle, My Yahoo, AOL, and others. You can also add subscribe to RSS feeds through some social network sites like Facebook.

How often is the feed updated?

As often as there is new news, the feed is updated. Check back often for updates.

What kind of news will appear on the NOBTS RSS feed?

The NOBTS feed will contain important announcements concerning the school and news from the Public Relations Office.
