Healthcare is expensive, and we know it can be stressful to find healthcare for your family. Both the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana have developed programs to help families with healthcare. The following list has been compiled by the Student Services Department for your convenience. New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary does not necessarily endorse any of the entities or programs listed below.
Baptist Community Health Services, Inc.
A Baptist medical clinic ministering to the community in close working relationship with the local Baptist Association and its Compassion Ministries
Baptist Community Health Services and its physicians provide quality primary medical care for youth and adults, many of whom have no regular access to basic health care including an adult population that has significant chronic health problems. BCHS works to improve the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of those it serves.
LaCHIP
The Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program (LaCHIP) provides health coverage to uninsured children up to age 19. It is a no-cost health program that pays for hospital care, doctor visits, prescription drugs, shots and more.
LaMOMS
LaMOMS will pay for pregnancy-related services, including doctor visits, lab work, prescription medicines, delivery, and hospital care. It may provide coverage for up to 60 days following the end of your pregnancy.
Louisiana Medicaid
These critical health coverage programs serve millions of families, children, pregnant women, adults without children and also seniors and people living with disabilities. In addition to covering services like doctor's visits, prescription drugs, and preventive care, Medicaid helps seniors and people with disabilities receive long term services and supports in their communities as well as in nursing homes. Together, these programs provide an important foundation for maintaining the health of our nation.
Greater New Orleans Immunization Network (GNOIN)
Free immunizations for your kids if your insurance does not cover them
The Greater New Orleans Immunization Network (GNOIN) was created in April 1998 when Christian Health Ministries partnered with several area hospitals to implement an immunization program for the children of Metropolitan New Orleans. The program focused on increasing the immunization rates for children by age two years. GNOIN offers the combined elements of an immunization registry and a mobile immunization unit (MIU). The primary objective of the Greater New Orleans Immunization Network is to protect all children from vaccine preventable diseases. This is accomplished by raising parental awareness on the importance of timely infant immunizations, by establishing a systematic method to locate and immunize children and by providing convenient access to immunization services. An immunization registry provides a confidential, computerized record of immunizations. Coverage rates are easily calculated to establish and monitor the immunization rates of children. As families move in and out of public and private health care systems, registries serve as a powerful tool to ensure that children receive timely and proper immunizations. Children are enrolled in the state immunization mobile immunization unit. Healthcare providers are key to the success of any immunization effort. With the active participation of private physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers we can positively impact the health of children in our community.
