Dr. Kristyn Carver

Kristyn Carver, PhD, LPC-S

Professor of Counseling

Kristyn S. Carver is Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, occupying the James D. and Rose Ramsey Chair of Counseling.  She has been teaching at NOBTS since 2000. Dr. Carver is an approved supervisor (LPC-S). In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Carver helps provide mental health services in rural southern Louisiana through New Life Counseling Center where she serves as the director of this faith based, non-profit counseling center.  She also operates her own private counseling practice in Metairie, servicing individuals, couples, and families. Craig Garrett

Craig Garrett, PhD, LPC-S, NCC

Associate Professor of Counseling

Craig Garrett is Associate Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  Dr. Garrett is a Licensed Professional Counselor and approved supervisor (LPC-S) in Louisiana, a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors, and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS).  Dr. Garrett serves as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at NOBTS.  He is also an ordained minister and has served as a chaplain in healthcare and hospice settings.  He holds the Master of Education in Counseling and Development, the Master of Theology, and the PhD in Psychology and Counseling.   Faculty Page     

Dr. Jeff Nave

Jeffrey W. Nave, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S, NCC

Professor of Counseling

Jeff Nave is Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Director of Student Counseling. He also serves as an Associate Pastor at Northshore Church in Slidell, LA, Chaplain with the Slidell Police Department, and works with law enforcement personnel as Critical Incident Response Specialist. Dr. Nave is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), an Approved Supervisor for LPC, AAMFT, and LMFT, and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors. He is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC).  He holds an MDiv in Psychology and Counseling, and the PhD in Psychology and Counseling.   Faculty page

Dr. Ian Jones

Ian F. Jones, PhD, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT, BCPCC

Professor of Counseling

Ian Jones is Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and holds the Baptist Community Ministries’ Chair of Pastoral Counseling. He taught previously at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was Professor of Psychology and Counseling, Associate Dean for the Division of Psychology and Counseling, and Director of the Baptist Marriage and Family Counseling Center, and at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, where he was Professor of Sociology and Dean of the School of Social Sciences. He is co-director of the Biblical Counseling and Spiritual Formation Network in the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA). He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a LPC and LMFT Approved Supervisor in Texas, a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor, and a clinical fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Dr. Kathy Steele

Kathy Steele, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S

Professor of Counseling

Kathy Steele is a Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, occupying the James H. and Susan E. Brown Chair in Christian Counseling.  Dr. Steele serves as Director of Clinical Training for the counseling programs at NOBTS, and Director of the Leeke Magee Christian Counseling Center. Dr. Steele is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and a LPC, AAMFT, and LMFT Approved Supervisor . She is the current chair of the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.  Dr. Steele and her husband lived in Central America and served as IMB Missionaries for 20 years. Dr. Steele currently is the Director of the Counseling Training Partnership between NOBTS and the R. Ocaña Baptist Seminary in Havana, Cuba.  Dr. Steele holds the MAMFC, as well as the PhD in Psychology and Counseling.   Faculty Page

Dr. Ian Jones

Lorien Fleener, MA, ThM, PLPC

Instructor in Counseling

Lorien Fleener is a provisionally licensed counselor and doctoral resident in the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision program at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She serves as a contract instructor in the counseling program, teaching masters-level courses and supervising counseling students in the practicum and internship process. In addition to her teaching, Ms. Fleener sees counseling clients at a local multidisciplinary clinic. Lorien enjoys working with a variety of individuals, couples, and families, but she has devoted much of her time to working with children. Using play therapy and other treatment modalities, she loves seeing children and their families find hope, wellness, and life. She has clinical and research interests in the emotional health of missionary families and has served internationally with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Originally from Tennessee, Lorien has called New Orleans home since 2011, where she lives with her husband and daughter.
